It has the vibe of a William Castle film. Go to Full Review

Creates an engrossing tale of murder, revenge, and sleuthing with unusual participants, offering procedural elements and macabre ideas to secure interest in the ways of wax museum employees and the killer creep they're hunting down. Go to Full Review

Clint E @RT58698373 2 days ago Let me begin with an opinion: This is the most Vincent Price-esque film that Price isn’t in. If you’ve seen House of Wax, The Bat, The Tingler, etc., then you’ve got the jist of Chamber of Horrors. Patrick Kennedy is menacing but no Vincent Price. The William Castle-style gimmicks are cheesy by modern standards and detract from the film’s quality. The supporting cast stands out, many names most movie and television buff know well. The wax museum proprietors who double as amateur sleuths are Cesare Danova and Wilfrid Hyde-White. Wayne Rogers of MASH fame plays a police sergeant. Even Tony Curtis has a minor role. I’m an enthusiastic fan of Laura Devon also. The plot seems pretty derivative of previous wax museum and other slasher horror films. I’ll withhold the details of Cravette’s dramatic demise; but don’t miss it. Originally intended as a TV pilot, "Chamber" isn’t scary or gory at all. Lightly recommended, just be ready to cringe at its dated gimmickry. See more CodyZamboni @CodyZamboni Jun 27, 2023 Way too talky, American version of Hammer style horror, has too many dull stretches. The added, lame, unnecessary William Castle-like promo of the horror horn and fear flasher, fizzle. The odd, out of place 1960s hairdos in 1890s Baltimore, add to the camp factor. On the plus side, movie has a truly menacing villain, genuinely scary wax figures, grisly murder wax tableaus. lots of beautiful women, and a cameo by Tony Curtis. Learning that this was a failed TV pilot, explains alot. See more steve d @RT35616104 Jan 8, 2023 Wasn't that effective even for its time. See more dave s @RT68722908 Nov 3, 2021 Despite some pretty decent production values and some solid performances from the cast, Chamber of Horrors fails to live up to its own hype. Before the film even starts, the audience is warned of the horrors to follow and advised to pay close attention to the ‘horror horn' and the ‘fear flasher' that will precede particularly grisly scenes, giving the viewer the opportunity to look away before being scarred for life. In this story of murder and revenge, there is nothing even remotely frightening and there is a total absence of gore, leaving the audience wondering what the purpose of the distracting ‘fear flasher' was in the first place. See more Nov 6, 2019 Largely forgotten mid 60's gem features a memorable turn by Patrick O'Neal as an insane killer. Stylish and colorful. A shame it wasn't made into a television series as originally intended. See more bill t @Spuzz Aug 30, 2015 Fun gimmick movie known for :"The Horror Horn" and the "Fear Flasher" over anything else. If it didn't have that, i'd give it the same rating. This wax museum murder mystery certainly isn't original, but well acted, with some scary bits. Even those are rather tsme, even though the horror horn warns us otherwise. See more Read all reviews
