This appealing formulaic action adventure (1998) displays a lot of conviction in its not-too-flashy action scenes and a little levity in the gradual socialization of Russell's character. Go to Full Review

The action is handled fairly well, but it's routine, and there's no satisfaction in seeing Todd waste men who are no more bloodthirsty than he is. Go to Full Review

I doubt that Kurt Russell has ever had less dialogue to work with than he has in this film. Go to Full Review

Soldier finally deserves a reappraisal. The Kurt Russell starrer is actually a hugely entertaining and visually arresting piece of science fiction cinema – at the centre of it is a bold performance from Russell – one in which he only speaks 104 words. Go to Full Review

…while humour is sorely lacking in Soldier, the brutalist sci-fi tone holds throughout, and it’s easy to get behind Todd’s stubborn unwillingness to be thrown out with the trash… Go to Full Review

Andy B @AndyB21 Feb 4 Not as good as claimed by some; not as bad as by others. Kurt Russell's performance is good but the whole thing is a little clunky and contrived, with some poor suit and vehicle designs. Of it's time, I guess. I'm still not sure how it's easier to dump an entire aircraft carrier in one piece on another planet than to just cut it up, though. See more Erin M @Mightymotes Oct 15 Great movie! Lots of action, and the story ends with hope for those people we were introduced to, in this bleak universe. See more xpig332 B Oct 12 It’s worth a one time watch See more Dan D @Goku4032 Apr 28 This movie doesn't disappoint. Kurt Russell is a one man killing machine. See more Gerald H Apr 8 This is far below mediocre. Russel‘s mimics are bound to be emotionless, but they are way TOO emotionless. Even Arnold‘s T800 is vivid compared to this „acting“. Everything else is too cheaply crafted and too poorly written for its time. Only Nielsen and Isaacs shed some light on this stinker. See more Charles D @Billythecow Mar 17 The first time I saw it was when it first came out, I thought 3 out of 5 stars. I just re watched it again in 2025 and really enjoyed it. Maybe becoming a real soldier after I saw it the first time made me appreciate it more the second time. See more Read all reviews
