Soldier finally deserves a reappraisal. The Kurt Russell starrer is actually a hugely entertaining and visually arresting piece of science fiction cinema – at the centre of it is a bold performance from Russell – one in which he only speaks 104 words.

Russell is quite suitable for a Terminator-like role, where dialogue is at an absolute minimum, physical intimidation is relevant, and action sequences are numerous.

Not as good as claimed by some; not as bad as by others. Kurt Russell's performance is good but the whole thing is a little clunky and contrived, with some poor suit and vehicle designs. Of it's time, I guess. I'm still not sure how it's easier to dump an entire aircraft carrier in one piece on another planet than to just cut it up, though.

This is far below mediocre. Russel‘s mimics are bound to be emotionless, but they are way TOO emotionless. Even Arnold‘s T800 is vivid compared to this „acting“. Everything else is too cheaply crafted and too poorly written for its time. Only Nielsen and Isaacs shed some light on this stinker.

The first time I saw it was when it first came out, I thought 3 out of 5 stars. I just re watched it again in 2025 and really enjoyed it. Maybe becoming a real soldier after I saw it the first time made me appreciate it more the second time.
