If the action and espionage elements were executed at the same level as the dramatic and comedic exchanges and the observations about the types of people drawn to this life, Ava might've been a cult classic.

Ava provides an enjoyable and often nuanced story of family drama and international assassins. If you are looking for an easy to watch action flick, that also provides some feeling, this certainly isn’t a bad way to spend an hour and a half.

Terribile thriller di azione in cui il più classico dei sicari infallibili (se pure al femminile in questo caso) lotta contro tutto e tutti con terribili sequenze di azione per sopravvivere e per redimersi. I personaggi di Jessica Chastain e John Malkovic sono tollerabili e potrebbero addirittura essere interessanti se supportati da una trama adeguata; mentre tutto il resto del cast è a dir poco senza senso, tra cui un villain talmente scadente da non avere nemmeno un secondo per dare motivazione alle sue azioni. E parlando di azione, le sequenze in cui la protagonista sconfigge innumerevoli agenti speciali senza batter ciglio, sono a dir poco ridicole e già di bassa qualità se fossero uscite negli anni 80. Un film dall'alto budget e dal risultato pessimo.

As a big Jessica Chastian fan I admit I'm biased, and this action flick is both formulaic and derivative, but she looks amazing in it and the fight scene at the end with Colin Farrell was great. Thumbs up, for me anyway.

We have seen similar films to "Ava" a bit too many times by now. Some worked like the brilliant "Atomic Blonde" while "Ava" does not despite an A-list ensemble cast. This is so generic, boring and the normally great actress Jessica Chastain is so out of her water as an assassin. There's nothing in her performance that makes you believe she is a trained killer. Particularly her action sequences. Even her way of jogging is not convincing. The only scene that actually did work was the fight sequence between John Malkovich´s Duke and Colin Farrell´s Simon. And it was nice to see the lovely Diana Silvers as Camille. That's it.
