Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting Jun 4, 2020
The filmmakers toss subtlety out the window in favor of fun, in your face chills that stick their landing. They also know how to stretch their meager budget; the ghosts of past patients in this asylum play a major role in inducing goosebumps. Go to Full Review

The filmmakers seem unaware that they're beating a dead horse. As the uniformly annoying characters stumble around, screaming and cursing, we don't give a hoot for their survival. Go to Full Review

The pacing is good and the scares are effective even on a repeat watch... All in all, it is a good scary movie, it’s a fun time, but as you watch it multiple times it gets less effective. Go to Full Review

While it's not the worst Paranormal Activity ripoff, there's still nothing worth watching in this throwaway found-footage CGI-fest. Go to Full Review

The procession of cliché scenes is presented with an undeniable amount of horrific energy, marked by some interesting changes in the setting and creepy creature design. Go to Full Review

Hey Guys M @RT10297451 1 day ago It doesn't expand the subgenre, but you could do worse for a run-of-the-mill, engaging found footage film. It earns it's creepiness dutifully through the 1st act & successfully ramps the tension up through the 2nd & 3rd as our hopeless cast frantically transverse a seemingly endless maze of halls, affected by a smattering of creative & fun scares. Matt's frenzied state towards the back end transforms him from a disposable character to a compelling & frightening presence that you could've easily written the whole movie 'round. The cast feels a bit over-saturated at the start, so Houston's death somewhat early is a welcome scene, causing everybody left to be christened with their own personalities, achieving solid chemistry. I could've done without the dated CGI, Houston's death being via bad CGI explosion, could've done with lesser jump scares & more deep scenes, but for what I got, I was quite satisfied. Not to many jumpscares if they are not anything special. 4/5 See more Ryan L @RT54475130 Oct 21, 2026 aka "Every Found Footage Movie Ever Made" See more Robert P @Superbad Oct 16, 2026 Grave Encounters is a *3* star Movie! Some of the CGI demon faces look a bit dated now, but the psychological trap of the building makes up for it. Surprisingly solid found footage. See more Read all reviews
