Ozon’s translation is a playful addition to the canon. It may lack the bitterness that Fassbinder skilfully worked into his film and its title, but it compensates with unmissable glass-throwing, door-slamming romantic agony.

While nowhere near as avant-garde as its inspiration, the gender-swapped Peter von Kant still has exemplar acting and dialogue in spades.

Great performances. I'm an Ozon fan ("Swimming Pool") and he really allows the audience to spend time with these characters. Plus, the music's great, too.

Im not sure what to think about this. There might be some reference to cinema history and Fassbender, but aside from that the movie doesnt offer much. The plot happens almost only in one place which I really liked and the butler Karl was hilarious, other than that, the movie felt like thousands of gut punches.
