Critics Consensus

Despite some surprising twists, Scream 3 sees the franchise falling back on the same old horror formulas and cliches it once hacked and slashed with postmodern abandon.

Scream 3 often feels like a spectre of slasher-movies past, but it features an engagingly prescient mystery about the dark side of Hollywood, and builds to an enjoyably tense climax in director Wes Craven's version of a haunted mansion. Go to Full Review

Wes Craven seems to have lost the thread of what makes these movies so entertaining, merely hoping fans would appreciate getting another romp with beloved characters. Go to Full Review

SCREAM 3’s flirtation with genuine subversion makes it one of the most interesting — and most frustrating — entries in the series. Considering the circumstances that influenced its production, it’s remarkable that it works at all. Go to Full Review

See more Philip D @Pillis 1d Underrated meta masterpiece. Great set peices, witty and intricate writing, fun humour. Yes the horror and gore are super tamed but it's still an amazing thriller See more Dennis E @coda.coza 1d I kind of liked this one. Unusual killer count for the franchise. However, the family dynamics and link to the first movie was questionable at best. See more Aaz F @Aaz101 2d This film gets a lot of hate which I don’t get. It’s not the worst film in the franchise, but not the best. The third film had a few production problems but it seems they did do the best with what they had. The feel of Scream 3 has a different feel of 1 and 2. Overall, it’s not a bad film, but, the kills are toned down and hardly any suspense and chase scenes. However, Scream 3 is a lot of fun and does round off the story of all three films whether people like the ending or not. See more Dominic S @Domdabom 2d While all Scream movies are good, this one is probably the 2nd weakest in my opinion, primarily due to the rewrites and revisions and downplaying due to the studios request. That being said, there is still a lot to enjoy. While Sydney is still the main character and lead of the series at this point, a lot of the screen time deservedly goes to Dewey and Gale as they finally get to play a bigger role in unmasking and killing Ghostface. As with Ghostface in Scream 2, the solo person behind the mask, a first and only solo killer to this point in the franchise, gets minimal screen time before the reveal, again making the killer reveal a bit on the weaker side (which would've likely been stronger had they gone with one of the previous scripts where Angelina, who plays Sydney in Stab 3, the movie within a movie was going to be the 2nd killer) and makes the shock value diminished. The motive however, as well as Sydneys showdown with the killer, makes up for the weak reveal. Still a fun entry. See more Hunter H. @ThatMovieGuy04 2d It has grown on me, 5 years ago I woulda gave it a 2 maybe 3 but it is nowhere near that bad it’s a good even great movie! See more Read all reviews
