Narratively and thematically, Disney princess films would evolve quite a bit over the next 88 years. But tonally and visually, Snow White set a template Disney has never entirely moved away from. Go to Full Review

"Masterpiece" and all the other enthusiastic words that are to be lavished upon [Snow White] seem too heavy a burden to bear for anything spun with such gracious, heart-warming charm, woven from the stuff of dreams. Go to Full Review

I absolutely love the soft colors and atmosphere of the movie. It definitely has that blurry old style to it, which it came out in the 1930s so that’s expected. In my personal opinion, it kind of gives it a sort of charm. I didn’t enjoy the music very much. It was very repetitive to me but definitely very catchy. But I did thoroughly enjoy the Orchestra/sound effects/background music. It gave the movie a very classic/aesthetic feel and I adored it. I absolutely love the symbolism. How they decorated the evil Queens living quarters with peacocks or the representation of the forest attacking Snow White but really we know it wasn’t attacking her, It was just presenting to you how scared she was and how it seemed in her perspective. There were other little details that just gave this movie beautiful representation. I just love the attention to detail in this movie and Snow White is a classic bubbly princess who talks to animals and sings beautiful songs. Main character When Snow White arrives at the dwarfs house, led by her animal companions of course, I love how our first impression of whoever lived in the house was that they were messy and must be children, but she didn’t judge them. Instead, she cleaned up and cooked food and then laid in their bed. She did something in return for sleeping in their beds. She’s very generous and thoughtful. While I love Snow White as a person because she’s very kind, considerate, gentle, and definitely very motherly; I did find her voice, kind of annoying. This is just a personal opinion, but I cannot stand those really high-pitched old-time versions of girls’s voices they used to put in cartoons. Side characters As for the dwarfs, I absolutely love their character. I love how they each have a defining personality and they’re named after it. My favorite is dopey and it might’ve been an adult joke but he’s just absolutely adorable. He is also always being bullied by the other dwarves. For instance, when they thought Snow White was a monster, they made a dopey go check it out instead, knowing that he’s the less mentally capable one. That kind of ticked me off. It’s also hilarious how the dwarfs came into their clean house with the smell of food and was instantly offended somehow by it all, and then called the food witches brew. Not to mention the birds, trying to scare the dwarfs for absolutely no reason was one of my favorite parts of that scene. I did think that at first grumpy was kind of sexist. He had a line where he said “they’re full of wicked whiles, I don’t know what that means but they’re full of them”. It makes me think that it’s something he learned from an older generation like someone he looked up to maybe said that. Which in a way is very accurate to generational conditioning. They definitely don’t know much about girls but they do know about the kingdom and the evil queen and the evil she’s done. Which makes me think that Snow White was kept blind to all of that. I love the bath scene so much. It’s just so charming and kind of funny but also those dwarfs are kind of mean. They literally sent dopey to get soap just to get them out of the way cause they already had soap and brushes and then he ended up eating the soap. The scene where Snow White and the dwarves were dancing and having a little party was so heart warming and cute. I loved the little innocent moment and splash of comedy they put in. I was totally wrapped in the scene where the evil queen goes to our dungeon and it’s making the poisoned apple. The ingredients that she calls out are crazy. Like mummy dust, a scream of fright, wind, and lightning. The transformation scene was phenomenal. I remember as a child it terrified me, but I couldn’t look away. The evil queen is very sadistic, slightly overconfident and absolutely dramatic. Towards the last moments of the movie, you can definitely tell that the dwarfs are becoming more kind and gentle, especially grumpy. The scene where the evil queen tricked Snow White into eating apple just shows how manipulative and convincing she can be. Snow White was 100% going to turn her down until the queen mentioned the apple being a wishing apple. Which shows that Snow White is a little bit naïve. I feel like she should’ve known something was wrong when the animals tried to attack them in her disguise. Definitely extra points for the animals going a different route and going to get the dwarfs. I also thought that was funny though because the dwarfs had no idea what was going on at first and then when they realized it was about Snow White they were 100% locked in. Main conflict They did not give that queen a break. Didn’t give her a chance to change back or use her magic. They literally drove her off a cliff, and I’m not sure if she died from being crushed by rocks or got eaten by her vultures. Either way that was a very fitting ending for her. Ending The scene where the dwarfs are mourning her “death” absolutely broke my heart. The atmosphere and the sad music and tones was just enough to make me distraught. Even though I knew the principal was gonna come. Conclusion All in all the story was a very fast paced story. It didn’t feel as long as it actually was. I enjoyed it for the nostalgia, but I didn’t enjoy it on a whole. It wasn’t bad, just not for me. The morals in the story were there, but they kind of got lost somewhere. I feel like as a kid I didn’t absorb any of the morals from the story and even re-watching it as an adult It was very vague and didn’t emphasize on the moral aspect. ABSOLUTE CINEMA. 10/10 See more Kat S @Xiomara011 Feb 14 I really enjoyed the animation in Snow White; it does an amazing job in transporting its audience into the magical world where the story resides. Surprisingly, even though the plot is very simple, and the film is over an hour long, it's still very well paced, so you hardly notice time passing. I've seen remakes of this film before watching the original, but I don't think I missed much in terms of the story, aside from the musical lines. Overall, its pleasant film to watch casually, but there are some plot and social issues that are worth noting.
