Marco Bellocchio’s The Traitor is his latest slice of unconformist Italian cinema whose mafia tale is a brutal knockout. It has such a rare script that goes against everything we know about conventional mob-genre film rules. It’s a cinematic miracle.

ALWAYS MADE OVER $300,000 SO WHY WOULD SHE SELL HER INTEGRITY FOR A $250,000. THEN FAKE CRY TO ANDIE , WHOM NEEDED THE MONEY FOR NEW BABY. CIRIE YOUR PITIFUL. THIS SHOW IS NOT WORTH WATCHING. IT MAKES CIRIE LOOK DESPERATE!! I REALLY APPRECIATED HOW ARIE , COULDNT SELL HIS INTEGRITY, SO HE ADMITTED IT. CIRIE AHOULD TAKE SOME LESSONS IN REPECT FOR SELF OVER MONEY FIRST!!. DONT WATCH. A legal drama that is more compelling than I anticipated. The reason is that the movie never really allows for a moment of triumph for Buscetta or the legal system intent on bringing the Mafia down. There are only small victories surrounded by violence and bitter disappointments.

A footnote in history of Cosa Nostra. It skillfully presents a complex character of a turncoat, who is facing both his mortality and tries to justify to himself and other, that his traitory isn't a fault of his own. Great reenactments of trial scenes, that were turned into a grotesques circus. With authentic Italian hand gesturing all around. However, the acting sometimes slips into borderline comedy and chaff. The extensive hallucination scenes and metaphorical allusions to themes are really blunt and movie really hammers them in, leaving really few ones for interpretation.

A good biopic on Buscetta's life, great acting by Pierfrancesco Favino. (Tommaso Buscetta) Might be better to do some research on the Sicilian Mafia, before watching this movie. A fantastic movie nonetheless.
