You have the yoozh archetypes from the genre, but the overarching premise of the separate vacations roadtrip was unique enough that I just rolled with it. I love anything that can make me laugh out loud, and this had me cackling at times. But there were also "aww" moments that had my eyes sweating. The problem is that you know exactly where it's going from minute one, and a romantic comedy that surprises in nothing starts to weigh. I appreciate that it normalizes without dramatizing: no combative speeches or exaggerated identity conflict, just a couple's story with very recognizable codes. That has value. But beyond that intention, it moves through the genre's most classic clichés. A few winks hint at parody, but it never presses the accelerator, neither brilliant homage nor sharp deconstruction. Technically it's fine and the actors do their job, but the chemistry never takes off and the conflict doesn't go deep enough to hurt or move you.
