Vincent S @BSME82 4d Where to start on this movie. The American actors were just going through the motions, no real acting. The plot was slow and the main Japanese actor that had an atomic bomb blow up above him and his survival was completely unrealistic. Also, his improbable journey and some how he finds the Antarctica survivors is completely unreal. What happened to the lady and kid that hopped in a boat and took off? The version of movie I saw did not address what happened to them. Movie script writing was clunky at best and the injection of some moral high ground dialog was forced. The basic movie plot would of made a really good movie. However this movie pretty much destroyed that. Unless you are into really bad SciFi movies, I suggest taking a pass on this one. In a post-pandemic world, Virus still manages to convey a hauntingly beautiful quality and a deep, humanitarian sense of the tragic, capitalising upon the conjecture that the one thing that unites the world is our mutual fear of imminent annihilation. Of all the adaptations of Sakyo Komatsu's works, this one is undoubtedly the best. Director Kinji Fukasaku gives the whole film a relentlessly sombre edge, never compromising his usual style in an attempt to appeal to a more mass market. The photography is frequently gorgeous, particularly stunning are its panoramic, aerial shots of the bleak but beautiful Antarctic locales. Backed by an enjoyable cast of B-movie Americans and Fukasaku regulars, plus a wonderfully evocative musical score, Virus should have given Fukasaku the worldwide acclaim he truly deserved. The acting, cinematography and story was ahead of its time, back in the 80's where post apocalyptic movies wasn't strong with its materials. See more 01/24/2014 Sometimes overwrought but mostly heartbreaking. Yeah. I'm man enough to admit I wept at like three different points in this movie. I defy anyone to watch the 5 year old Toby Anderson trying-to-work-the-radio sequence and then tell me they didn't well up. The US version sucks by ending the movie with everyone (left) and everything blowing up, so do yourself a favor and track down the Japanese cut.
