There are many people to credit for this buoyant “Brilliant Career,” including its developer and co-writer Liz Doran. But it is Philippa Northeast as Sybylla who is the shiny thing from which we cannot avert our eyes. Go to Full Review

If you’re a fan of the novel and regard it as a sacred set text, I can imagine that these changes may be hard to stomach. ...As a way of introducing Franklin’s likeable heroine to a new audience, though, this series is a charming coming-of-age tale. Go to Full Review

Whimsical and sharp, My Brilliant Career remains just as poignant and plucky as it was when Franklin first shared her words with the world 125 years ago. Go to Full Review

My Brilliant Career doesn’t feel as fresh or revolutionary as its heroine, but it’s a worthy watch for fans of historical dramas and romances alike. Go to Full Review

Anne B @Annieone 34m I feel sorry for the rest of the cast, but the casting of Jake Dunn in the role of Frank completely ruined this for me! Frank was described as a charming, handsome Englishman, exiled to Australia. But the actor is not handsome, he exudes no charm, had no chemistry with Philippa Northeast. Not sure if it is just a lack with her or he's just that bad of an actor, because I've never seen him in anything else, and now I will be content if I never do. See more sawsaw H @Sousou123 35m Too disappointed! I love the book narrative but it didn’t translate well into the series plot & execution. The acting was mediocre at its best, no chemistry between Sybelle & the 2 male actors. Why do we need another love triangle? It felt forced. See more Lismary O @Meimei79 53m Excellent cast and story. I felt more drawn to Syb and Frank’s relationship but the whole cast was spectacular. Finished it in one sitting. See more Amy G @Parrotfull098 53m Beautiful story, setting and cast. Just a gorgeous adaptation of this classic story of a young girl finding herself. The actors were all so terrific. Really enjoyed seeing the mischief of youth balanced with the pressures of society. Absolutely brilliant! The critics are right on this one. See more Erin H @RT00679084 1h It’s like Anne of Green Gables wandered onto the set of Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes, somebody turned on The Hunger Games color filter, and then sprinkled in a little Bridgerton storyline. The whole show has this very green, earthy, slightly grimy look. Everyone’s hair is a little undone, the clothes feel worn-in, and honestly it looks like nobody has taken a proper bath in a while. The casting also feels very intentionally unglamorized. These are not your typical polished, ridiculously gorgeous period-drama people. Christopher Chung, who plays Harry Beecham, is easily the most striking person in the cast. See more Somen R @Frannie6759 1h A beautiful coming of age story of a young woman finding herself and her voice against the norms of the time and expectations of society. It’s so charming and looks absolutely gorgeous in the Australian outback setting. The whole ensemble was fantastic and the chemistry between the central trio was superb. The b stories were also gently compelling. A must watch for anyone who has enjoyed shows like the other bennet sister and Dickinson. See more Read all reviews
