In the face of various underhanded maneuvers by local authorities, 19th century Australian bushranger Ned Kelly flees to the outback with his brother, Dan, and two other cohorts. As the gang's reputation grows, they take on Superintendent Francis Hare, while Kelly encounters a little romance in the form of Julia Cook. It all comes to a violent head in the town of Glenrowan.

The director Gregor Jordan’s approach to the material is fairly pedestrian, turning the film into heavily fictionalised Robin Hood romanticism, but Ledger’s charisma lures us in.

Heath Ledger is an attractive, rather subdued Kelly and Geoffrey Rush as his nemesis, Superintendent Hare, merely has to narrow his eyes, move with martial authority and exude menace.

I enjoyed this movie a lot. The Australian history was interesting and i never knew many things about Ned Kelly or his execution. This movie deserves a much greater score than it's been given.

Better than the 2019 film on the titular character, less hung up on the perversions of it all. However, this is not without it's flaws, the main being that it moves too quickly without much depth or buildup, there was no chance to like or care about what was happening.
