The intensity of the situations never gets out of hand and there is a positive message in the end. The music also is well chosen. When Clyde’s wife Lucy, who works at the mortuary of Dr. Bob Thomas, has a new colleague, Connie, she invites Jack to a blind date with her. Jack falls for the shy Connie and learns that nobody has ever cooked for her and she wanted to go boating at Central Park. Jack learns how to swim with Clyde and to cook with Lucy’s friend Cannoli, who cooks at the Waldorf. Clyde tells Jack that Lucy has betrayed him for two years with Cannoli. On the day of the dinner party with Connie and his friends, the party goes awry. "Jack Goes Boating" (2010) is a simple and realistic tale of love, friendship and betrayal. The unconventional story shows the problems of two couples from the working class. This is the first and only work as director of Hoffman, who died four years later. My vote is seven. The late Philip Seymour Hoffman plays a quiet introverted kept man named Jack. He drives people in a limo for a living and his only friend is Clyde who has a loving wife. When Jack meets a woman named Connie played by Amy Ryan there's a cute little romance that begins to blossom. She mentions she likes boating there's just one problem..Jack doesn't know how to swim. So he decides to learn some things to build up his self confidence so Connie won't be disappointed. Jack just wants a better life but he's worried every time something good happens something always screws it up. The movie has a lot of slow parts but it's the remarkable chemistry of Hoffman and Ryan that makes it float It's a nice character study. See more 08/05/2019 unwatchable.
