Blake- N @PBSAniDom May 18 Ratchet & Clank is a pretty mediocre animated film that never fully captures the charm and energy of the video game series. While the movie looks colorful and has some decent action moments, it feels much more generic than fans probably expected. The voice cast is one of the better parts of the film, especially with guest stars like Paul Giamatti, John Goodman, Bella Thorne, Rosario Dawson, and Sylvester Stallone. They bring some personality to the movie, even if the script does not always give them much to work with. A lot of the humor feels weak, and the story follows a very predictable path. Fans of the games may enjoy seeing familiar characters and locations, but the movie lacks the creativity and excitement that made the games stand out in the first place. Overall, Ratchet & Clank is not terrible, but it ends up being forgettable and average as a video game adaptation. It has a few entertaining moments, but not enough to make it memorable. Yes, there are some parts that look like cringe and I don't like the idea of having Silvester Stallone in the film, because he's not the first name I'd think of when I hear "Ratchet and Clank." But if you watch it as a normal animation movie, there's some appeal. The animation is smooth, the comedy is brilliant and the story, despite some confusing changes from the 2002 PS2 game, work well for this film. Its sad how this film was a failure, but I think its for the best that nothing else came out of it ever since (Apart from 2021's Life of Pie and a trailer for a cancelled Sly Cooper film.)
