Harlan's film -- written by Vikram Weet -- is a routine low-budget genre picture, with blandly attractive young actors overmatched by the freakiness lurking in the wilderness. Go to Full Review

Made with just enough craft that, were you to stumble upon it late at night during a bout of insomnia, you wouldn't mind watching through to the end. Go to Full Review

The film is ridiculous and laugh-out-loud funny, though it's sometimes hard to tell if this is intentional or not. Either way, it remains riveting because of its effective tropes. Go to Full Review

The Dyatlov Pass Incident is one of the more fascinating events in the world of true crime, and while the story ultimately fails to bring any interesting angles to the mystery, the lack of competing storylines center around the event brings some appeal. Go to Full Review

There usually comes a point when anyone behaving rationally would stop filming a horrific experience, and Devil's Pass hits that early on. Go to Full Review

If you are going to do a movie like Devil's Pass or Chernobyl Diaries - both that have such a mysterious and creepy back story - you need to do it well. Go to Full Review

Poppy N @Poppy11 3d One of the worst movies I've seen since 1st cow and the Blair witch projects. Too bad a negative rating scale isn't available and apparently these students in film learned nothing valuable at school except how to repeat and replicate the worst productions and waste shit tons of money of a what could have been a decent concept movie ......if........IF YOU COULD FUCKING SEE A GODDAMN THING!!!!!! SO OK LETS GET IT, GOING FOR REALISM IS FINE BUT I CAN MUTE THE PICTURE AND JUST LISTEN TO THIS MOVIE AND ITS NO DIFFERENT THAN HABING THE PICTURE ON. WAY WAY WAY WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY TOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH BLACK/DARK SCREEN TIME. LIKE WAITN FOR THE FKN BOAT ON 1ST COW TO FINALLY GET ACROSS THE FKN SCREEN SHIT THERE'S HALF THAT MOVIE RT THERE! UGH !!!! WASTE OF TIME WATCHING THIS WHOLE THING shoulda stuck with more of a doc style film based on more believable reasons for the the truth which this movie just butchers, how did this movie get funded for big screen Like a dog plays basketball ? Wtf? See more BRizz 2 @TheMovieSearch Jun 26 Devil’s Pass is a rough and disappointing attempt at a horror film. It had a promising concept and the potential to be something chilling and thought-provoking, but unfortunately, the execution fell flat. The premise follows a group of students who travel to the infamous Dyatlov Pass in Russia to investigate the mysterious real-life deaths that occurred there. The story is told in a found footage format, similar to The Blair Witch Project, with a mix of handheld recordings and some bits of external narrative like news footage. That could have worked — if it had been balanced better. Instead, the film leans so heavily into the shaky cam and “raw footage” aesthetic that it ends up feeling cheap. The Blair Witch-style approach is outdated at this point, and it doesn’t bring anything new to the table here. The filmmakers could’ve created more tension and atmosphere by blending in cinematic-style shots or cleaner news coverage to contrast the personal footage. But it never really rises above the gimmick. Even when the mystery starts to unfold, and the group’s recordings show us what’s happening, it never feels immersive or believable enough to pull you in. The editing is choppy, the cinematography lacks impact, and the script — while loaded with potential — could have benefited from several rewrites. There are moments that tease a more compelling movie underneath the surface, but they never fully form. I wouldn’t say Devil’s Pass is the worst horror movie I’ve ever seen, but it definitely doesn’t meet the expectations it sets for itself. It had all the right ingredients: a real-world mystery, creepy atmosphere, and survival horror — but in the end, it just feels flat, cheap, and unmemorable. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this one. Skip it and find something that delivers on both concept and execution. See more Bruce M @BruceMc Jun 6 For a movie with a budget and a "name" director, this is incredibly bad. Can we stop with these "found footage" movies? The ending shocked me with the teleportation technology learned in the Philadelphia Experiment, did not see that coming and it tied the ending in perfectly with the original Dyatlov pass crew it was so original and unexpected. The crappy CGI in the very end took this down a notch but really clever and fun movie See more Read all reviews
