This movie, this character, gives us a real hero; no superpowers, no advanced tech. Just a man given purpose to fight for the common people around him. It gives hope not just that there's some savior out there, but that when push comes to shove, there are people who will do what it takes to protect the things that really matter to us. If you’re looking for super intuitive and intricate storytelling, this isn’t the best thing in the world. But if you just want to watch Frank Castle brutally murder people for 25 minutes straight, then this is 100% for you! And don’t get me wrong, it does have a great story. Frank sees it this way: he’s avenged his family. The work is done. What is there left for him to do? And Jon Bernthal puts a lot into this performance. That graveyard scene where Frank almost kills himself was really great simply because Bernthal puts a lot into that performance. Then, Frank meets Ma Gnucci and it’s full speed ahead from here! I loved watching him kill dudes left and right as he tries to get out of the building, and then I loved the entire dining room sequence. And it’s that little girl in the diner that makes Frank realize he needs to be a protector and a hero. And thus, The Punisher is reborn! Highly recommend!
