What to Know

Critics Consensus

Leveraging Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's classic chemistry to texturize a friendship tested by greed, The Rip tears into its potboiler setup with compulsively watchable confidence.

The Rip seems highly possible until its overblown climatic end, but even when it succumbs to the action thriller norms, it and the cast always keeps you thoroughly entertained. Go to Full Review

Joe Carnahan's crime thriller feels like a nice throwback to '90s genre pictures, but it pulls a few too many punches. Go to Full Review

I was entertained, even if for the longest stretches I couldn’t have told you who was doing what to whom. Chalk it up as yet another twist in the tale of Matt ‘n’ Ben – two Yin/Yang talents who will be yoked together for eternity. Go to Full Review

It won’t be anyone’s idea of something special, but it does, at least, entertain. Go to Full Review

The ingredients are all there. And certainly, The Rip delivers frequently entertaining bursts thanks largely to the game cast, but it’s not a particularly cohesive whole and leaves a lot of the firecracker potential at the door. Go to Full Review

I'm a fan of both Damon and Affleck, and found the film engaging, yet parts of it were somewhat confusing to watch. I can recommend checking it out because their chemistry is always a treat to watch. Go to Full Review

Movie T @TheMovieTalk 20h The mere combination of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon automatically raises expectations. When these two share the screen, you anticipate something memorable. The reality, however, is more grounded. The film is undeniably entertaining, with a few subtle twists woven into the narrative and some well-executed action sequences that build momentum toward the final act. Still, despite its strengths, the movie doesn’t break new ground within the world of cop dramas. See more Mariela M @MarielaMovieJunkie 20h Horribly bad. This movie is just ridiculous See more Mikey M 1d Ben Affleck needs to learn how to pronounce Hialeah See more Micky T. @mickythompson 1d Good actors and acting. The plot felt surreal. A million bullets shot and only a couple of people hit. The ending was well done. See more Todd B 3d Worth watching despite the slow start and silly ending. The action climax at the end is highly illogical on many level, but hey, it's a movie. The whole time I was watching it, I was thinking of the money, not the money in the "rip" but the money Netflix saved in film location. The entire film had three basic locations. They probably filmed in it two weeks. If you are going to make a movie set in Miami, why would you film it like a play set in a dark garage, cul-de-sac and a truck bed the whole movie. See more Worm W @Wormwood 4d The bro-mance re-ignited. Great cast all round supporting an overall entertaining story. Totally worth the watch See more Read all reviews
