Stephen G. @patient1 Nov 28 Our intro is 2 female characters, and the younger one is in need of a serious attitude adjustment. Lol. The Wicked behavior has begun quite early, and with such cruelty. We've new characters, and they're a couple as it were, and they seem rather cute, and I am waiting for the next wave of Terror to begin. The Brazennes of our offenders are out of control this time, and our couple could be in serious trouble here. Their place is a gargantuan maze and can only spell trouble in the following scenes. The sheer amount of Taunting is beginning to send a Horrorific message, and that is one that almost guarantees things are going to get even more intense before long. Our couple are in real trouble, and it's looking like things are again getting worse. These monstrosities have this game well versed, and the level of Torment that they are able to inflict is one of pure Terror. It had no overt violence or gore. That's pretty amazing. See more MrAvocado 10/22/2024 Even after watching this many times over the years I still find it genuinly tense. Very simplistic plot, minimal dialogue and not much in the way of character development (hence the short run time) normally, you would feel that is a problem, as the traditional view is we need to care about the characters however this is not a fantasy and the situation is very relatable: we can all imagine ourselves waking up in the middle of the night to a strange noise. The music is sparse but effective and definitely adds to the overall atmosphere of the piece. I think my only disappointment is the picture quality is very poor and when I upgraded this from DVD to blu ray there was no difference in the picture quality. However perhaps this was a choice by the filmmakers to go for a grainy, de saturated and washed out look but watching this film now on a 55" 4K telly it looks like a VHS tape. See more Wayne K 10/12/2023 A rarely mentioned but pretty entertaining French horror film, Ils is allegedly based on a true story, but I couldn't find any concrete evidence to confirm it. Despite being connected with the French Extreme movement, Ils is a largely bloodless film with no gore or torture porn scenes. Any brutality is hinted at or obscured rather than outright shown, and the majority of the intense scenes are based around anxiety and suspense, as they should be. I found it hard to buy that the villains' actions are those of teenagers, since they appear to have the speed and strength of fully grown, athletic adults, but their motivation does make a kind of twisted sense. The camerawork and score help add to the fear factor, as does the opening scene, which at first appears to be pointless, but its significance comes to light later on. It's a concept I've seen covered better in other films, but for the relatively short time it's on screen, it's more than capable of having you on the edge of your seat. At only 77 minutes, the perfect little movie if you're strapped for time and you're in the mood for something that's constantly unsettling with no gore. Supposedly based on some true stories or snippets of urban legends. Eerie atmosphere throughout with solid performances by the cast. See more Read all reviews
