In need of a vacation from his ordinary life, factory worker Douglas Quaid visits Rekall, a company that can turn dreams into real memories. Thinking that memories of life as a superspy are just the ticket, Quaid undergoes the procedure -- but it goes horribly wrong. Suddenly, Quaid is a hunted man. Done right, Total Recall should be a glorious mash-up of genres; The Truman Show-meets-Blade Runner. As it is, this is sci-fi without ideas, and a thriller completely bereft of thrills.

I recently watched both this, and the original, back-to-back. The latter version had its moments but really could not compare to the novelty of the original, including the subtle humor. "Consider it a divorce!"

What was missing: "get your_ to Mars". Great visuals, believable albeit implausible physics sets, yet laughable catfight, cringe 3 callback and no lasers.

Perfectly fine movie with decent acting. Action was fun and fast paced, if not a bit over the top. End was probably what rubbed everyone the wrong way, but honestly its whatever, the movie is over and resolved. Surprised the ratings are so bad. I mean its no perfect movie, but its interesting, unique, and fun. I mean sure its a remake but if its done decent and 20 years after the original, who cares.

It's not that it's a terrible movie, it just was completely unnecessary. Not one thing about this film is better than the original. It doesn't do anything new, and most of the changes are for the worse. If the 1990 version just did not exist at all and this was a made for TV or straight to streaming film, it would be a decent film. I will say that I liked Kate Beckinsale at least equally as much as Sharon Stone as Lori, but other than that it's not really worth watching over the original in any way.

Never saw the original, just clips. It’s simply not a good film. The cast is excellent. Having never understood what clips of the first is saw this really explained what the next 90 minutes was going to be about. Clever by anticipated. Ever without understanding the original.
