Par H @Parhwy 6d Vaa Vaathiyaar is a marathon with many twists, turns, stories, scenes, edits, music, stars, extras, dancers - drama, action, tragedy, comedy. It’s eclectic, hectic. I've never seen a masala film before. Vaa Vaathiyaar took me a few sittings to get through. Not because it's a bad film, no, because it's so busy, so tiring. Each scene demands attention. Story, editing, and plot have high demands of your eye, your mind. The subtitles contribute an insignificant part to the mental bandwidth usage. It could be a cultural issue for me (as an Anglo-Australian) in that I am seeing drama and action be done masala-style for the first time. That said, some aspects of this film are derivative and tiresome. The final fight scene is an exemplar. It reminds of the first Neo/Smith fight scene in Matrix Reloaded, and the use of slo-mo is excessive and utterly loses its punch (pun intended). The lead actor, Karthi, is a gun, so multi-talented.
