With the war in Iraq raging on, a young man (Jonah Hill) offers his childhood friend a chance to make big bucks by becoming an international arms dealer. Together, they exploit a government initiative that allows businesses to bid on U.S. military contracts. Starting small allows the duo to rake in money and live the high life. They soon find themselves in over their heads after landing a $300 million deal to supply Afghan forces, a deal that puts them in business with some very shady people.

Sensitive arms deals, guns, and risky travels - these thrills demand a fast screenplay, but the pace was painfully sluggish. The leads' performances made me stay.

This entertainment, contrary to most reviews, appealed to me because it's based on facts (not real events; the characters exist, but it's unclear if what happened here actually occurred) with a sarcastic narrative of the events. It boasts a good main cast, and their synergy carries the film, along with the assertive choice of soundtrack, scenes of pure cinema, and truths about world armed conflicts. Those who dislike the film accuse it of being a cheap copy and plagiarism. Those who like it defend its cinematic quality like war dogs.

Brilliant iteration of real events, with some added Hollywood, naturally. Amazing exactly how the system works. Great story, well written and Todd Phillips did good bringing this to screen. Whole cast excels convincingly in character. Lots of wheeling and dealing, drama, dilemma, plot twists, suspense, action and it does have that "real life" feel to it. Very well done and very entertaining. Oh, and definitely not a comedy ...

Very good film. I got the wrong impression of it; it was described as a Jonah Hill comedy. It is not a comedy. It is a serious movie about a serious subject; it presents information about arms procurement and war profits made from it how much it by whom. Whoever wrote this movie knows the subject very well.
