Low-level bureaucrat Sam Lowry (Jonathan Pryce) escapes the monotony of his day-to-day life through a recurring daydream of himself as a virtuous hero saving a beautiful damsel. Investigating a case that led to the wrongful arrest and eventual death of an innocent man instead of wanted terrorist Harry Tuttle (Robert De Niro), he meets the woman from his daydream (Kim Greist), and in trying to help her gets caught in a web of mistaken identities, mindless bureaucracy and lies.

A masterpiece, from acting to soundtrack, script, costumes and settings. Entertaining throughout and ironic at times. Even if dated (1985), still a great watch for any kind of evening. Cherry on top is the great post punk / steampunk aesthetics

This might be my favorite movie of all time. It’s quirky and I don’t pretend to understand the plot that well but it is very engaging. I’m not sure which of the two endings I prefer but they are both thought provoking.

This has got to be Terry Gilliam's undisputed masterpiece. This dark comedy set in an authoritarian future perfectly parodies the absurdism of bureaucracy. It's dreamlike qualities make it a wonderful and surreal experience

Synopsis
