[The series] works largely as a portrait of the rapacious, ever-vigilant monster that is addiction itself, and the one-step-forward, two-steps-back dance of death that so many addicts enact until it’s too late to do anything about it. Go to Full Review

A thorough, enjoyable and ultimately very sad portrayal of how a famous, brilliant man couldn’t conquer his addictions. Go to Full Review

Through friends, family, fellow addicts and former partners, what emerges is a straightforwardly told, crushingly sad story of a man whose talent, humor and success were not enough to overcome a chronic disease. Go to Full Review

We all know where The One About Matthew Perry is headed; the documentary's success is that it will make viewers wish it would never get there. Go to Full Review

Did our insatiable appetite for his struggles push him to the edge, with the rest of us providing the final nudge? The sad irony is that, after spending so much time revisiting his life, we come away knowing little more about the man than we did before. Go to Full Review

Joshua M @RT66232987 3 hrs ago Really dull and obviously commissioned by Perry"s friends. Kevin Pollack is a brilliant actor, and Perry's fate was sad, but self-inflicted. His family is obviously supportive and decent (NBC personality Keith Morrison is his step-dad) but none of his co-stars or anyone but Pollack, a couple lifelong friends, his sister, and a couple longo ago ex-girlfriends appear in the way too long "documentary." Absent are excerpts from Perry's own book about his addiction, or the truly fascinating story of how he died, the doctors, and others who helped him kill himself, and their fate. See more Michael P @mpagem2 1 day ago Was this documentary supposed to make me like Matthew Perry? It does a good job of highlighting him as a jealous, unfunny epitome of a theatre kid. I never liked Friends, but I never knew how strange he was. He might be the unfunniest person in mainstream media I’ve ever seen. He seems like such a performative person, I guess thats par for the course though. See more Lulu J @CallMeLulu 3 days ago As Mathew Perry said about his imminent death "It will be shocking but not surprising." It was that for me and very very sad. The documentary sheds some light on his life, career, relationships, and addiction--but it's superficial. Overall, because the family and friends interviewed are so careful about what they say, the narrative feels choppy and puzzling. Not that it needed to get into every ugly reality--and the fondness and intimacy from close friends and family is sweet--but, for example, his sister closes the documentary, dabbing tears, saying: "I just take so much solace in the fact that at the end of his life he was happy. At peace. He was really happy. His last Instagram post was him in his hottub overlooking the ocean saying that this was his favorite place in the world...and that's where he died." Then you hear Kermit the Frog singing "Rainbow Connection." Sweet, but that's the hottub he drowned in completely messed up, strung out off his goard. So...happy? ...peaceful? See more Kelly D @Naptowngirl 3 days ago I read his autobiography years ago. This is similar but different bringing a visual and his family’s perspective along with close friends.
