E.B. White's beloved children's tale is brought to life in this animated film, which finds the young farm pig Wilbur attempting to avoid a dire fate. Of all the barnyard creatures, Wilbur's staunchest ally is Charlotte, a thoughtful spider who devises an intriguing plan to keep the gentle little swine out of the slaughterhouse. Although Charlotte's efforts, which involve words written in her delicate web, seem far-fetched, they may just work.

Critics Consensus

That's some pig, with spirited vocal performances and a charmingly family-friendly adaptation of E.B. White's winsome story spun around him.

It preserves some of the form and language of White's original but fattens and sweetens his lean and pungent prose with songs by Richard and Robert Sherman. Go to Full Review

The Hanna-Barbera animation is better than the studio's usual bare-bones mediocrity, and the voice cast is superb. Go to Full Review

Clan C @RT71211543 1 day ago As a child, we were fortunate enough to have a family friend (also named Charlotte) take us kids to see Charlotte's Web when it first was released. I was young but enjoyed the story, the music, and the songs. Not a dry eye was among us near the ending. As an adult, I fell in love with the portrayal of each voice actor, the amazing soundtrack, and the tender singing voice that Debbie Reynolds gifted to Charlotte. It's hard to not be emotionally moved when listening to Mother Earth and Father Time, especially the farewell reprisal. The story has aged very well, and still tugs at the heartstrings decades later, and makes you weep for the noble sacrifice of a humble but extraordinary barn spider. The autumn days grow short and cold It’s Christmas time again Then snows of winters slowly melt The days grow short and then He turns the seasons around And so she changes her gown Mother Earth and Father Time How very special are we For just a moment to be Part of life’s eternal rhyme... See more Caleb K @CalebTheMovieWatcher729 Oct 22, 2026 A charming story with beautiful animation. However the duologue is somewhat poorly written and acted out, and the musical elements are lackluster and un-memorable. See more Greg L @GregL65 Mar 7, 2026 I was 8 years old when I saw this in a movie theater in 1973. It made an impression on me then, and the song "Mother Earth and Father Time" is for the ages. The Sherman brothers were amazing. Besides doing the music for this movie, they also did the music for Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and many, many others. Paul Lynde is priceless as comic relief character Templeton. See more Tom F @RT55173143 Nov 1, 2025 There are worse ways to teach little kids about death. But ay, they got the KFC guy in this movie so gotta give them props for that, but other than that, this was just a huge waste of time movie for me! And its SO SO SO BORING!
