Moving in from Chicago, newcomer Ren McCormack (Kevin Bacon) is in shock when he discovers the small Midwestern town he now calls home has made dancing and rock music illegal. As he struggles to fit in, Ren faces an uphill battle to change things. With the help of his new friend, Willard Hewitt (Christopher Penn), and defiant teen Ariel Moore (Lori Singer), he might loosen up this conservative town. This movie still holds up 40 years later. Only annoying thing is that Fathom films start exactly on time and most people anticipate trailers so more then half the audience walked in late to the movie.

A killer soundtrack, a wonderful Kevin Bacon performance and a lot of energy make Footloose an 80s classic. Plus one of the best scenes ever in a musical film, REN teaching Willard how to dance. I watched it in a theater at 15 and just saw it again and it’s still a lot of goofy fun!

Still a Classic, Still Completely Ridiculous Footloose (1984) **1/2 Footloose is every bit as iconic, and every bit as ridiculous, as its reputation suggests, turning a ban on dancing into gleefully overwrought melodrama. Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer, and John Lithgow keep the earnestness winning, the soundtrack still rocks, and the campy absurdity is ultimately part of the film's enduring charm.
