Critics Consensus

Though some may find the plot a bit lacking, Blade's action is fierce, plentiful, and appropriately stylish for a comic book adaptation.

Blade's stomach-turning special effects, bone-crunching martial arts and cynical humor will more than satisfy any action-film addict's need for a fix of eye-popping escapist adrenaline. Go to Full Review

The MCU owes Wesley Snipes (and horror) a huge thank you because this movie is the reason they got as far as they did. The erasure is wild because it is also one of the coolest superhero movies ever made. Go to Full Review

Alejandro E @Alex970 12 hrs ago Of Marvel Comics’ early attempts to adapt its characters for the big screen, this was – before *X-Men* and *Spider-Man* – the first to show any real substance. The blend of action and horror is good enough to live up to expectations, although the final 25 minutes feel a bit all over the place. Perfect for a weekend with no great expectations. See more Matthew D @OceanSage 3 days ago A bloody fearsome vampire thriller! Director Stephen Norrington’s vampire horror action thriller Blade (1998) remains a seriously entertaining movie to this day. Norrington brings vampires into the modern day with his Gothic style that feels very 90s. Wesley Snipes has a cool composure and powerful gravitas as Eric Brooks, also known as Blade, that never falters. Snipes is convincing with Blade’s martial arts techniques and swift swordplay. Stephen Dorff’s contemporary vampire villain Deacon Frost is really fun to watch. Arly Jover is so lovely and pleasant as vampiress and villainess Mercury. Her platinum blonde hair and white dresses are so 90s and her dangerous attitude is striking. Kris Kristofferson is funny, cool, and touching as vampire hunter Abraham Whistler. N'Bushe Wright is enthralling as heroine Dr. Karen Jenson. She’s clearly gorgeous, but also has a dramatic sincerity with her natural performance that brings out real warmth out of Wesley Snipes’ Blade. I like this movie, I had good memories since I watched it as a child. See more Joe G @Review_Joe Oct 10, 2026 I finally got around to watching a Blade film. I was thoroughly surprised at the effects for a late 90s film. Wesley Snipes fits the Blade character so well. The action scenes were fun to watch and kept me engaged. Considering it came out before I was even born, I'm honestly impressed by how good and influential it feels. It really feels like one of the movies that helped pave the way for what would eventually become the MCU. See more Read all reviews
