Zack and Miri Make a Porno exposes Smith’s formula to its most naked structure, leaving his outline blatant and overexposed. We slowly realize that he’s been making the same movie over and over again: Sex comedies with surprising acumen and feeling.

A comedy that never ventures beyond basic jokes, featuring an underlying romantic tone—a common trope, yet one that never quite meshes well with Seth Rogen’s films. Directed by Kevin Smith—the king of "indie movies for geeks"—the film is amusing thanks to its premise, but it never seems to reach its full potential. Centered on two roommates who need to find a quick way to pay their bills, the story touches on an intriguing theme—sex with or without emotional involvement—though it fails to give this idea the weight it deserves within the broader narrative. It’s an entertaining film about pornography, yet entirely devoid of eroticism.

I'm actually surprised this got an R rating as far as content is concerned. It was pretty funny throughout. The whole thing has an ugly face though. Best saved for older seasoned moviegoers.
