The trailer for this movie got me so hooked; too bad the movie itself couldn't do the same. So frustrating, because the premise had so much potential for a truly Impactful story. It lacks enough memorable moments to build the two main characters' relationship. It lacks the clever intricacy that other spy movies have. And it also lacks heart. The movie doesn't do anything to deserve its ending either. It's as if it was written by a melodramatic teenager, who felt like it needed to make an emotional impact, but didn't thought about it logically. Having said this, if you have nothing else to watch, give it a try. Perhaps you will like it. See more Adrian B @AL_Ballin Sep 29 Brad Pitt has been in some of the best films of his career over the last 10 or so years. He has a gift for finding excellent projects and attaching himself to them. This is one such project. Allied is a solid top 10 in his filmography and that's saying a lot. No sequels, no IP, no remakes, just great films. This one takes place during WW2. It is part spy thriller, action flick, and romance, and guess what, it is excellent. I don't recall what was nominated for awards that year, but Pitt not joining those that were nominated is a downer for the film industry. This one is a big go. The characters are a little bit more than generic. Both leads have certain traits that differentiate them from the stereotypes. I was confused after the first act, because I realised I didn't know what this movie's about. And I remained confused for 10 minutes, until (around) the middle point. Overall, I liked the story, but the dialogues were sometimes out of place. In the end this movie made me feel something, because it was able to connect me to the characters and I love that. I also loved the cinematography. The lighting was good and the spinning cameras are one of Robert Zemeckis' reoccurring traits I love. The production design is good, but much of it felt CG. Speaking of visual effects, I was expecting more from a 2016 movie, from that aspect the movie disappointed me. On the other hand the score is incredibly subtle and actually there's not much music and that was a great decision to build more tension. The acting performances are good enough and the main reason I watched this is Brad Pitt's movie star energy, which I felt fulfilled with.
