Kaufman is really great at writing deep and nuanced characters, but he's not so great at making really big and over the top things. So Anomalisa is perfect in it's wonderful simplicity, a heartbreaking look at this one magical moment in this man's life. And the use of animation in this film was great to make both the vision come to life, and how it's greatly incorporated into the plot.
