Karl Davis wakes in a wrecked hotel room with no memory of what has happened, where he is, or even who he is. When he discovers a body in the bathtub and two police officers knock at his door, it sets off a terrifying, explosive chain of events that sends Karl and hotel maid Molly on a blind descent into a world of confusion and conspiracy -- told almost entirely from the protagonist's point of view.

It’s kind of glorious. But, unsurprisingly Cheung can’t keep the novelty level up. Once he gets back to the actual plot after the hour mark, the film reverts to less-than-interesting gangland-retribution shtick. Go to Full Review

The video game action comes so thick and fast it’s rarely clear just what is going on, the story is paper thin, and the ‘humour’ is a mix of not taking extreme violence seriously, along with a copious supply of fart gags. Go to Full Review

Though its point comes a little too late to land cleanly, it’s effective at emphasising the absurdity of the frantic carnage that came before it, concluding with an original, quietly devastating idea that lands with a real punch. Go to Full Review

Its turn-of-the-millennium videogame quality extends to the film’s dramatic chops. While Hannah’s cheeky charm occasionally manages to shine through, Karl is exactly the sort of blank slate protagonist that once dominated gaming. Go to Full Review
