Kevin L @Lakeman Jul 16 Fine work by Pearce. Buckley & Flynn are esp. strong here as odd birds w/ tendencies towards destructive acts. But one is essentially much less of a real neighborhood threat. But there are a number of 'beasts' in this one. James, as Moll's mother, is not the least of them. Has its weaknesses. There's some ambiguity in character actions, but I get that it's likely meant to comment on the blurred reality of moral standards, what constitutes 'good' & 'evil', & how well do we know those we love? 3.4 stars See more Joanne H @RT85208661 Apr 19 I watched this film years ago and I remember really enjoying it. A brilliant job of drawing you in to these characters while never letting you forget about the terror that's going on in the island. Jessie Buckley's performance is so amazing and powerful. Johnny Flynn is not only mesmerizing but irresistibly intimidating at the same time. The cinematography is beautiful. I love the scene where they are climbing on the rocks. It is so beautiful. Through all the drama and intrigue, nothing prepares you for the ending. A must watch film in my book. It’s a story rooted in character; messy, layered, and deeply human, without hiding behind spectacle. Despite the constant suspicion hovering over them and potentially their heinous criminal acts, I couldn’t help but empathize with them both, which made the tension even more unsettling. I was completely pulled into the lucious, moody forests and coastal scenes, where small-town life feels intimate yet quietly shaped by unspoken tensions and subtle social dynamics.
