Critics Consensus

Misunderstood when it first hit theaters, the influence of Ridley Scott's mysterious, neo-noir Blade Runner has deepened with time. A visually remarkable, achingly human sci-fi masterpiece.

A dazzling cult classic that oozes ambience. Go to Full Review

This movie loses track of the few expectations it sets up, and the formlessness adds to a viewer's demoralization -- the film itself seems part of the atmosphere of decay. Go to Full Review

Ridley Scott ought to be a set decorator, rather than a director. In Blade Runner, he loses sight of the story while devoting all his attention to decor and lighting. The decor and lighting, it must be admitted, are stupendous. Go to Full Review

Into this superficially simple detective drama, Scott has built a complex set of moral questions. Visually stunning, his Blade Runner offers us an otherworldly nightmare. Go to Full Review

Thanks to its powerful visuals and brilliant acting, it is a movie that does not get old: no matter how many times you revisit it, there will always be some new elements or symbolism that stand out with each rewatch. Go to Full Review

Rarely in the annals of film history has a movie received a complete critical and popular reevaluation in as short a period of time as Blade Runner (and those of us who championed it since Day One plugged it at every opportunity). Go to Full Review

Jacob W @RT17896586 5 days ago Here RS delivers a visually masterpiece to please any science fiction fan. His use of visual storytelling and imagery is on par with George Lucus Star Wars. Long before imaxx this is amazing and ahead of its time. HF plays the role really well and you couldn’t imagine anyone else in the role. Years latter there was a long overdue sequel with HF and RG however it didn’t compare to the original film See more House S @RT06944493 6 days ago How could Ridley Scott be this good? He must have some flaws but they are not on display here. See more Emmanuele C @RT79297851 Oct 23, 2026 Blade Runner is a cinematic masterpiece that was misunderstood upon its release but has since become one of the greatest science fiction films ever made. Ridley Scott created a visionary world that feels hauntingly beautiful, dark, and far ahead of its time. Its breathtaking cinematography and philosophical depth explore what it means to be human, raising questions about identity, memory, and mortality that remain relevant today. The performances are outstanding, with Harrison Ford memorable as Rick Deckard and Rutger Hauer delivering an unforgettable portrayal. Yet the soul of this film is Vangelis’ spectacular soundtrack. Its haunting electronic melodies capture the melancholic atmosphere of a futuristic Los Angeles, turning every scene into something extraordinary. Blade Runner is more than a film; it is an immersive experience and a visionary work of art that grows more powerful with every viewing. A true cult classic and an absolute gem of cinema. A timeless work of pure genius!!! See more Paulo R @RT52471455 Oct 23, 2026 Such a compelling film. The visuals are fantastic and the world truly feels lived in. The movie is very creative with the lighting, atmosphere and visuals and it creates an unforgettable, stunning experience. Though only in one scene, nudity is in my opinion always unnecessary and therefore it's hard to give this movie the full 5 stars, but the rest is still an amazing experience. See more Sini K @Sinwort Oct 20, 2026 My favorite movie of all time. Amazing atmosphere, doesn’t need a lot of action to stay interesting, at the special effects feel more authentic than any CGI could ever feel. Interesting characters and a story line where you actually have to think about the movie, instead of getting every opinion and meaning hand fed to you by the dialogue and director See more Henri V @hvalmont Oct 5, 2026 The future, as remembered by a dream. Ridley Scott built a Los Angeles that never existed and somehow every sci-fi film since has lived in it - rain, neon, smoke, Vangelis. But the machinery is just the frame: the film is about what it means to be human, asked by people who aren't. Rutger Hauer's "tears in rain" remains the single greatest death scene ever filmed - a machine teaching a man how to die. Rewatched it in Tokyo with my wife, who had never seen it. It stands the test of time - every detail, the costumes, the texture, Vangelis with a soundtrack. Forty-plus years on and nothing has aged a day. They've been arguing for forty years about whether Deckard is a replicant. The film's answer: it doesn't matter. That's the point. A 10 then, a 10 now, a 10 forever. See more Read all reviews
