After transferring to a Los Angeles high school, Sarah (Robin Tunney) finds that her telekinetic gift appeals to a group of three wannabe witches, who happen to be seeking a fourth member for their rituals. Bonnie (Neve Campbell), Rochelle (Rachel True) and Nancy (Fairuza Balk), like Sarah herself, all have troubled backgrounds, which combined with their nascent powers lead to dangerous consequences. When a minor spell causes a fellow student to lose her hair, the girls grow power-mad.

Critics Consensus

The Craft's campy magic often overrides the feminist message at its story's core, but its appealing cast and postmodern perspective still cast a sporadic spell.

The Craft has got its own energy and confidence, as well as a kind of 90s fearlessness that went with not knowing, or perhaps not caring, about the sensitivities surrounding young people’s anxieties that are a more central part of today’s conversation. Go to Full Review

I really enjoy the characters. Every single one of them is very unique and the film does an excellent job at fleshing out each girl. Go to Full Review

Jagdpanzer T @RT44446946 1 day ago The Craft is very 90s, and not in an entirely good way. Much of the dialogue, facial expressions, and body language from the four main characters was way cringier than I remember. This is a movie that constantly breaks its own rules too, and can't seem to make up its mind regarding its core moral tenets. Characters are never really punished according to the "rule of three times three" as stated in the story, at least not in a timely manner or a way that seems proportional to their personal abuses of power. Sarah (Robin Tunney) is the proverbial "good witch" of the four, and as soon as she gains the upper hand she immediately affects the same air of condescension and arrogance that the narrative has thus far been admonishing. To top it off she even abuses her power by attempting to cause harm, but is still understood to be righteous and exempt from punitive spiritual blowback simply because the movie tells us it's fine. In other words, she's the "good guy" because they say she is. See more Alex B @AlexBioni 5 days ago We Are the Weirdos This movie is very 90s, from the music and teen angst to the costumes. I think the era elevates the story, and it wouldn't be as effective today. There's a charm to it. Nancy's goth look feels authentic, and I love the coven props, from the knife and ritual table to the pentagram and flowers. The effects hold up well, and I love the feminine symbolism of the earth, elements, and witchcraft, along with the intro song. The movie explores how out of place these girls feel and the trauma they endure before finding others like them. The coven becomes a safe place until their practices grow darker and take a toll. The acting is great, and the four leads have solid chemistry. Without that, the movie would fall flat. Laura gets what she deserves. Neve Campbell is a goddess. It's distracting seeing Neve Campbell and Skeet Ulrich together in a 90s movie the same year Scream came out. Minor pacing issues don't take away from my enjoyment. See more Matthew D @OceanSage Oct 8, 2026 Classic 1990's coming of age drama with a witch theme. The Craft (1996) is like The Crow (1994) with witches. It's an absolute dark delight. The 90's grungy aesthetic, goth girls, intimate close ups, dark themes, and innovative camera ideas fill the screen much to my pleasure. Speaking of The Crow, The Craft utilizes the same composer, Graeme Revell. The highlight of The Craft is certainly the cast for the youthful coven of witches. They carry every scene with a realism for the time. Fairuza Balk is the head witch Nancy with goth outfits and make-up to spare. Her portrayal of depression, anger, and insanity is just simply a joy to watch her act. Robin Tunney delivers her finest acting ever as the lead Sarah. Tunney is pretty, likable, depressed, and devious simultaneously. She nails Sarah. Neve Campbell plays the dejected Bonnie without confidence over her terrible burn scars. Lastly, Rachel True is excellent as Rochelle with her uncertainty and strength. See more ALEX G @RT17258574 Sep 21, 2026 Pretty creepy for a 90's movie! It's like y2k vibes + witchy spooky aesthetic.
