But it's Clive Owen, who was so fine as the homosexual imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp in "Bent," who steals the show. Yes Clive Owen is very good, and the details about how casinos and gambling work are interesting, but these things do not make up for really puzzling elements in the plot. And I never really thought I cared about lighting in movies that much, but every scene feels like it was filmed under fluorescent lights. Not a single room in the entire movie evokes an interesting sense of atmosphere. I saw another review at that calls this movie self-serious, and I think that is an excellent descriptor as well.
