At times this film has the eager, sincere quality of a student play: excitable theatre kids giving it their all. But when heavier dramatic lifting is required, it falls short. Go to Full Review

By focusing on life and its messiness instead of looming death, Hart’s film earns the emotion other cancer dramas take for granted. Go to Full Review

Sandler is sweetly attuned to Sophie, a sometimes tentative teenager. And Lynskey strikes a believable balance as both a fighter and a woman tired of the fight. Go to Full Review

"Don't Say Good Luck"...manages to avoid the worst inclinations of this kind of drama, instead giving us an earnest and heartfelt look at the realities of being a teenager losing a parent and a parent saying goodbye to their teenager. Go to Full Review

Don’t Say Good Luck combines movie-musical structure with teen-movie richness. It succeeds where the miserable mixed-genre construct of La La Land failed. Go to Full Review

I fell in love with the main character. I rooted for her happiness, her growth, her future. Everything she did was exactly what a beautifully written character should do. And then there's her mother. Dying of cancer. A character I ALSO loved and desperately wanted to survive. And this horrible fucking movie made me root for both of them, knowing I couldn't have everything I wanted. HOW FUCKING DARE YOU? Every character was beautifully written. Every emotion felt earned. I was completely invested, and I hated every goddamn second of what this movie put me through. Cruel. Devastating. Emotionally revolting. 1/10. Worst movie I've ever watched. 10/10. One of the best movies I've ever seen. I'll never forgive the people who made it. See more Caroline C @Carolineclynes Oct 11, 2026 Sunny did a great job, her singing was beautiful. I hope to see her in more movies. The parents were good too, very genuine.
