Elite ski mountaineers Jim Morrison and Hilaree Nelson fell deeply in love while reaching the pinnacle of their sport. Their drive sharpened into a shared dream: to climb and ski the direct North Face of Mount Everest -- the most difficult and dangerous climb on the mountain and the most coveted ski line on Earth. Thousands have summited the mountain via Nepal's southeast ridge, but only a handful have ever reached the top by this route -- and no one has successfully skied down. Already known for their extraordinary feats in the mountains and no strangers to loss, Morrison and Nelson stake everything on this daunting challenge.

It’s an exhilarating and intense documentary that is photographed and edited with impeccable skill. Go to Full Review

What we certainly get is glorious footage of them going about it: and it’s this achievement that we can celebrate with almost no quibbles at all. Go to Full Review

“Everest: The Other Side” becomes a mournful and increasingly solitary march. Maybe that’s appropriate. Morrison’s extreme compulsion inevitably pulls him away from us, leaving behind a more disquieting film. Go to Full Review

It has impressive cinematography and an inspiring story about Jim Morrison's quest to climb up and ski down Mount Everest's more difficult North Face. This documentary's uneven editing makes the narrative choppy and occasionally sluggish. Go to Full Review

It’s probably my least favorite of Chin and Vasarhely’s films, and part of that is due to my biased disinterest in stories and characters like these now. Go to Full Review

Donna C 7 hrs ago Movie was good & liked that it used the real people like Jim Morrison, Jimmy Chin & really sherpa's to tell the story. This gave it a more personal feel. There are always trials & tribulations with Everest & amazing they accomplished the North Face from China which very few make & then to see Jim ski down was spectacular. Also, bizarre that they went during monsoon season in order to make it before season end. They had terrific determination, climbing skills & made it through undefying odds especially multiple avalanche. Beautiful scenery throughout the film & terrific story of will & determination. See more Kyle S 7 hrs ago The scenery was incredible but the story was not our favorite for a climbing documentary. See more Angela 19 hrs ago Absolutely incredible footage, I held my breath during the descent. Heart wrenching and life affirming story of one of the most impressive mountaineering and ski descents of the Century. Seeing this movie in IMAX is a must!!!! See more Paul 19 hrs ago It’s tense and beautiful and 100% original - there is nothing else like it. For the people whining it’s a ‘vanity’ project - these people set a massive goal and went out and persevered. It’s shameful to criticize someone with this much passion and follow through on their dreams. See more Bill Y 20 hrs ago Skip it. A young couple attempts an extraordinary feat: climbing Everest's brutal North Face and skiing back down. But what should have been an exhilarating account of human endeavor quickly becomes a depressing slog. While the documentary devotes ample time to the people involved, it offers surprisingly little insight into the actual skill and artistry of climbing or skiing. Worse, as the featured climbers abandon their families for this high-risk expedition, the film prominently features—without irony—the devastating impact of past family loss. Ultimately, there is no joy in the ascent, and the descent looks like a novice skier snowplowing down a black diamond run. Although the visuals from Everest are stunning, awe gives way to sorrow for the family members left behind, and unease over the life-threatening risks forced upon the Sherpas for a sponsor-backed adventure.
