It's a breath of fresh air—a simple story about protecting a child and finding redemption, with zero hidden agendas. The Director’s Eye: The CGI is 2002-era, but Blue Sky nailed the lighting contrast between the cold ice and warm characters. Manny feels heavy and grounded in the frame. At its core, it’s a pro-family story about misfits saving a baby. Diego’s redemption arc—struggling between predatory nature and conscience—is moving. Manny’s selfless duty is a great lesson. I loved the use of "Send Me on My Way." The Cuts: Let's be real, the animation has aged—humans look stiff and backgrounds are empty. Sid the Sloth walks the line between funny and annoying, and the dodo sequence felt like a weird fever dream. Verdict: A solid, wholesome classic. It champions the idea that family is who you choose to protect. Clean, funny, and morally sound. Favorite Line: "That's what you do in a herd: you look out for each other." Yeah, it may have some really immature poop jokes but don't forget: It's a kids movie. Stuff like that is expected. I would say that Ray Romano's voice suits Manny the mammoth really well and John Leguizamo KILLS it as Sid the sloth. Diego was a fan favorite of my brother. We both thought he was REALLY COOL. The scene where he has his eyes glowing used to creep the HELL out of me as a kid, though. The ice slide scene is SUPER fun and so is the running from the lava scene and the fight between Manny and the Rhinos. In fact, that's something Blue Sky does not get NEARLY enough credit for: They can make THRILLING action sequences. The score by David Newman (The brother of Thomas Newman and Randy Newman) is EMOTIONALLY MOVING as well. The story, as simple as it is, is pretty heartwarming in my opinion. You really want to see Manny, Sid, and Diego bring the human baby back to its people. So, yeah. I would say give it a watch.
