Critics Consensus

Smart, original, and above all terrifying, It Follows is the rare modern horror film that works on multiple levels -- and leaves a lingering sting.

I appreciate that Mitchell wanted to make this more existentially dreadful and not confine himself and his characters to working within a set of rules, but... there’s ambiguity, and there’s simply being vague. Go to Full Review

It Follows represents a compelling evolution in how studios and audiences can (and should) conceive of its monsters. Go to Full Review

No question that the storytelling here is impressive; the story itself, however, is a bit thin. Go to Full Review

It Follows feels like a new thing in horror. It feels like a movement toward the conceptual idea of what drives horror. Strip down the overburdened tropes and monsters that make up what horror was for decades, and leave just the essentials. Go to Full Review

It's not a bad film at all, and I appreciate that it feels so original and unconventional. But at the same time, I think it has too many unfulfilling moments to fully recommend it. [Full review in Spanish]. Go to Full Review

The idea is clever, simple, straightforward, The direction is pretty good also but there are times it feels like it can disappear a bit. It's moody and atmospheric but never feels low budget. It's feels grounded and real despite its supernatural concept. There also is a suprisingly low body count in this as well which was refreshing. It's more the horror comes from the idea you can never rest and trying to figure out what it is exactly. Honestly? I think people are over thinking this. I just didn't really see enough hidden subcontext to see a relation to HIV, the Great Recession, or sexual repression. It's not something like First Blood where you can see what the true symbolism of things are because of all the obvious clues and hints laid out. There really isn't any. I take it at face value as a no frills dark spirit following you. This does feel like indie horror and has an arthous See more Anna M @RT63207242 2 days ago S.T.E.T. See more Read all reviews
