Rose Byrne and Ethan Hawke, Chris O'Dowd combine in this quaint romcom with a dramatic heart. I only had one problem with this film: in the very good scene where Ethan is in hospital and he has exes and kids going off at him… the bedside monitor stays at 117/72 even though he is clearly agitated. That’s dumb directing. The set design and locations are so believable, I enjoyed the houses, the crockery, the knickknacks. The story and plot tick along easily enough although Hawke sending O’Dowd an unreleased album when he thinks he and his cadre are morons, is a weird self-own. Oh, and Hawke is invisible… yet he lives in a community using his real name… in 2018… Not believable. The theme I took away from this film is living in a failed past, betrayal, regret, forgiveness, new roads. I have watched this twice now. Rewatch? Maybe, maybe.

Unique plot, well-directed and edited. Full of compassionate humor and irony. Rose Byrne is deeply charming in her pursuit of things deeply meaningful. She may have found them in her resonant relation to Hawke.
