When Earth falls under attack from invincible aliens, no military unit in the world is able to beat them. Maj. William Cage (Tom Cruise), an officer who has never seen combat, is assigned to a suicide mission. Killed within moments, Cage finds himself thrown into a time loop, in which he relives the same brutal fight -- and his death -- over and over again. However, Cage's fighting skills improve with each encore, bringing him and a comrade (Emily Blunt) ever closer to defeating the aliens.

Critics Consensus

Gripping, well-acted, funny, and clever, Edge of Tomorrow offers entertaining proof that Tom Cruise is still more than capable of shouldering the weight of a blockbuster action thriller.

[Edge of Tomorrow] may not be as smart as it could've been in the broad strokes, but a clever, well-acted thrill ride like this doesn't really need to have its head fully in the game, now does it? Go to Full Review

Another romance via time loop, but with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. I wish this had somehow acknowledged its Japanese source material, but still an inspired interpretation. Go to Full Review

Breathe J @SilverScreenSweetheart 2 days ago Edge of Tomorrow is an action-packed thriller in which Cage (Tom Cruise) dies in combat against an alien race known as Mimics, and he is forced to relive the same day and his brutal death over and over again until he can conquer the Mimics. Laced with strong performances (especially from Cruise), intense action and combat scenes, fantastic direction, and an engaging storyline, Edge of Tomorrow is an exciting thriller that offers audiences a wild ride. My only criticism is the excessive back-to-back action sequences that almost overrode the storyline and plot and made them harder to follow. However, the masterful precision of those action scenes compensated for that flaw. Overall, Edge of Tomorrow is a unique action thriller that I would recommend to fans of action/thrillers, sci-fi, and the one and only Tom Cruise. Thank you for reading my review. God bless you, and stay safe. (Do not try any of those stunts at home!) See more Winston D @WinstonDavenport 5 days ago 9.3/10. I remembered liking Edge of Tomorrow, but I'd forgotten just how good it was. Cruise is hilarious playing a guy who's terrified of combat and wants nothing to do with any of it. Watching him get thrown into the same mess over and over was great. And Emily Blunt is fantastic. Her character has no patience for him, which makes their scenes together even better. I loved how much the movie gets out of the time-loop idea. Every time Cage starts over, he's learned something, and I never got tired of watching him figure things out. The action is easy to follow, too, which I appreciate. I still think some of the rules surrounding the loop are a little questionable, but that bothered me less on this viewing.
