Beautifully-shot film, although sometimes the use of processed grain and lens flares were distracting. The second half was exactly what I wanted, but the first half is a bit slow.

A revenge melodrama that practically pulsates with human agony while radiating a psychological/surreal intensity that is simultaneously seductive and repellant. This might be great filmmaking. It might be trash. I could make a case for either.

Amazing, beautifully tragic revenge film. Atmospheric and emotional, I have never experienced something like this. So much symbolism combined with pure adrenaline and emotion and REVENGE. I wish I could live and stay in the first act of this movie, before everything gets crazy it’s beautiful and serene and you wish you were back there as you get deeper into the sick sadness you are forced into.

The visuals carry this movie like Atlas carries the world; I have never seen any movie with better color, lighting, and just beauty. The chainsaw fight stands out the most to me, the atmosphere is just so fucking powerful. The only thing that doesn't make it 5 stars is that the story is basic as hell, it's just Nicholas Cage going on a brutal revenge quest which is the plot of most of his films from the past decade. It's also pretty slow, which didn't really bother me that much but I can see other people getting bored if they're unimpressed with the visuals.
