Newlyweds John and Jenny Grogan leave behind snowy Michigan and move to Florida, where they buy their first home and find jobs at competing newspapers. Soon afterward, the Grogans adopt Marley, a yellow Labrador pup. But Marley soon grows up to be a mischievous handful. OK, I admit I cried a small bucket at the end... but at least I hated myself for it. This is bland and obsequious tripe or, as my own dog would say, "Woof!"

Sometimes, and especially on a crummy afternoon in the middle of March, it's nice to be able to switch off and settle down to enjoying the sight of middle-class families eating well and playing together in sprawling, bucolic gardens.

The production is light, filled with big love and sobbing cries, two talented stars that sufficiently play their roles, and plenty of awww moments the movie makes sure to replay during the end credits. What’s not to enjoy?

Camilo Carreño: It is a very tender movie in which it shows us the story of a couple who adopts a dog and shows us the whole story of him and the family. It is a movie that is very sentimental and personally the ending affects me a lot because Marley (the dog) looks like my dog
