When college coach Herb Brooks (Kurt Russell) is hired to helm the 1980 U.S. men's Olympic hockey team, he brings a unique and brash style to the ice. After assembling a team of hot-headed college all-stars, who are humiliated in an early match, Brooks unites his squad against a common foe, the heavily-favored Soviet team. As the U.S. squad tries to overcome insurmountable odds and win the gold medal, the team becomes a microcosm for American patriotism during the Cold War.

The game remains one of the best moments in sports history. "Miracle" depicts America's spiritual triumph over the Specter of Communism. The implications of this Olympic showdown went far beyond the scope of sports, in the grand scheme of things. Go to Full Review

Mike N @MYC_mike 10h Almost perfect, but rarely do sports movies like this nail the actual sports side of it. It leans authentic rather than drama. Only 1/2 star off is for the length. It's got a long and amazing story to tell but at times feels slightly drawn out. See more Corinne F 1d It's well cast - I like that they chose mainly unknown actors who actually played hockey. It made it more believable. The focus is mostly on Herb Brooks. The wife role was trite & unnecessary. Some scenes were too long/repetitive (e.g., drills - we get it!) There should’ve been a wide cam. shot @ the climactic moment they won. Minor issue, but I found it distracting that the crowds looked too modern/not true to the time period. I know they're not the same type of movie, but I prob. enjoyed the new doc. "Miracle - The Boys of 80" more. The focus in it was more on the players & games. We get to know them better & feel more of a connection. They also highlight more the dire/hopeless state of the country at the time, world events & the Soviets/Cold War, which is important as it’s really what made that event/win so meaningful & powerful. Not enough letters given to write all that/how I wanted to, ah well! See more Mike W. @Weebs825 Feb 22 Kurt Russell was brilliant as Herb Brooks. This movie brings tears of joy to your eyes. See more Sky C @skycasee3 Feb 21 Honestly one of my all time favorite movies. The fact that it is based on a true story, and you grow attached to all of the characters and guys on the team. I’ve watched thousands of movies and this movie always brings it home for me. If you have not already watched this movie, I highly recommend it to anyone. Such a great and moving feel-good movie. They really, truthfully, outdid themselves in the filming. Each character was picked perfectly for their roles as well. I will say, after watching this movie at least once a month (it is my comfort movie). I still find myself crying. See more Daniel S @DES13 Feb 7 Recently watched this again as it’s been a while. It holds up extremely well. Kurt Russell is extraordinary in this film as Herb Brooks. See more AJ D. @oriented Jan 8 Greatest sports movie of all time See more Read all reviews
