The conception of the film is amazing but I won’t spoiler it for those that didn’t still watched it. The acting on other hand is also very well performed by the actors and of course Chazz Palminteri - one of my favourite “mafia” actors - “A Bronx Tale” has an astonishing performance and yet at the end… So to resume this the film is “must watch films” and overall it is a good movie with great story, great acting and great ending (somewhat…)! Max Hoover (Nick Nolte) and his partners Elleroy Coolidge (Chazz Palminteri), Eddie Hall (Michael Madsen) and Arthur Relyea (Chris Penn) for a tough LAPD squad to enforce the law. Max is happily married to Katherine Hoover (Melanie Griffith). When a young woman, Allison Pond (Jennifer Connelly), is found murdered with most of the bones broken, Max recognizes her, but hold the information. Then he receives a film addressed to him and watch the projection with Elleroy, who recognizes the woman having sex with General Thomas Timms (John Malkovich). The general is the head of the atomic commission. When he meets the sender of the film, Jimmy Fields (Andrew McCarthy), he suspects that Gal. Timms may be the killer. “Mulholland Falls” (1996) is a magnificent film noir with a dream cast. Watching this movie again in 2025, the viewer will probably enjoy it more than almost thirty years ago. One of the reasons is the complex story of military and government conspiracies that are not made anymore. The dream cast is another attraction, with names such as Nick Nolte, Melanie Griffith, Jennifer Connelly, John Malkovich, Andrew McCarthy, Chazz Palminteri, Eddie Hall, Michael Madsen, Chris Penn, Treat Williams, Daniel Baldwin, Ed Lauter, Bruce Dern, Louise Fletcher, Rob Lowe and William Petersen. The reconstitution of United States in the 50’s, with cars, costumes and buildings, is also amazing. In the end, there is also a moral lesson, with Lt. Max Hoover learning the price of his infidelity. My vote is eight.
