When Tommy receives a phone call inviting his band to open for Green Day on New Years Eve, he doesn't realize it's an elaborate prank by his older brother, Wayne. Desperate to believe his life is about to change, Tommy steals Wayne's car and begins driving his band from Kansas City to Los Angeles, hell bent on getting there in three days. What follows is a rowdy and uproarious road trip across America, inspired by Green Day's early days of touring in a van, years before the release of their breakout record Dookie.

The soundtrack -- about 98 percent of which is by Green Day -- is a bit one-note, but it’s got a lot of bounce. Likewise, the script is unsophisticated but enjoyably performed.

For the uninitiated...the movie will probably come across as a lesser-tier genre piece, messily constructed and more successful as fan service than as a generically raucous teen comedy with a sentimental streak.

if you're a fan of green day, and cheesy modern version of Ed Edd and Eddy in a sense with mckenna grace obligated to be here, then this movie is for you.

It was an okay movie. Many of the jokes fell flat and the relationships felt hollow and the acting wasn't great. It feels like there's so many missed opportunities for the story to be better. This felt like the corporate safe movie for suburban punk kids. There was a great use of Green Day songs throughout the film which fit the scenes perfectly many times.

I saw NIMRODS when it first premiered at TIFF. It’s a love letter to the ’90s, but still feels modern, with a ridiculously good Green Day soundtrack that keeps the whole thing moving. I’ve been a casual Green Day fan for many years. Not an obsessive one, but I’ve seen them live many times, saw AMERICAN IDIOT in Berkeley before it became a phenomenon, and was lucky enough to catch NIMRODS long before this release. Obviously the music speaks for itself. Punk songs, pop songs, huge anthems, and sometimes really simple, poignant songs that have somehow connected with multiple generations. But I think it’s more than that. AMERICAN IDIOT was a tour de force, and now, somehow, they’ve conquered another medium with NIMRODS. It’s funny, charming, entertaining, and just a really good time. Bravo Green Day. Proud to have played a small role in helping this film find the audience it deserves.

If you are not a Green Day fan then don't waste your time and money. HOWEVER, if you like Green Day or just enjoy some great rock n roll this movie needs to be on your "must see" list. You begin the movie kind of scratching your head, but by mid-point you're rooting for the band and by the end you'll be standing on your seat, singing and laughing your cheeks off. It is also a little autobiographical of both Billie Joe Armstrong in particular and the band in general. Watch for Keen Ruffalo and Sean Gunn.
