Viewers who generally like the pro-ghost/anti-burglar premise of One Eye Open will likely enjoy it. Others without this specific preference may want something a little scarier, more sensible, or both. Go to Full Review

For all its shortcomings as a horror film, ONE EYE OPEN understands something fundamental about grief: those we lose can remain with us, offering strength long after they’re gone. Go to Full Review

I liked the premise and core plot, but the execution was a little lacking. Mostly due to some cast members delivering quite flat performances, while others did just fine. Go to Full Review

One Eye Open is not your typical haunted house story. It is worth the ticket for anyone looking for a different kind of scare this Halloween. Go to Full Review

One Eye Open has a plot full of bewildering non sequiturs, but is worth the watch nonetheless as Coffey keeps the suspense tight and offers supernatural cathartic vengeance to those deserving of it. Go to Full Review

jesse v Oct 16, 2026 the movie follows your typical "ghosts" haunt people in old mansion trope, yet interact like real humans. most of the camera work in the first act acted like Lakitu from super mario 64, truly bizarre choice. like why would a college student have a two story old house while their grandfather lives with Alzheimer's? and somehow two intruders walked into the house to rob the riches?? the delivery lady character was so annoying and somehow knew the main character's backstory. also why did had to see the main character bike to the elderly home instead of calling them?? and another intruder somehow gets into the house? also the interrogation scene with the guy was so bizarre and so padded out for time. and yet the guy was able to escape after being tied up?? snd the main character couldn't defend herself against the guy intruder and escaped even though she did earlier in the movie??? the writers really just rented the big old mansion and tried to make a spooky story out of it (a long one at that). this movie couldn't have existed if the front door was locked. there were some questionable shots that focused on the main character inappropriately. and the credits song chosen was bizarre (could it be AI??) See more Surya K @Surya_Komal_critic Oct 17, 2026 One Eye Open is an enjoyable-enough supernatural horror film with a few appealing ideas and a setting that does much of the heavy lifting. Its reversal of the traditional haunted-house formula gives the story an interesting hook, while the Victorian-style mansion and Nathan Towns’ orchestral score establish an atmosphere that I particularly appreciated. Kushi Beauchamp leads the film effectively, with Addison Landes also making a positive impression in key scenes. However, the lack of genuinely effective scares and sustained tension prevents the film from reaching the heights its premise and setting suggest. One Eye Open may not be the most frightening haunted-house experience, but its unusual take on supernatural guardians and its beautiful old-mansion setting offer enough to make it a reasonably engaging watch for fans of the genre.
