By default Our Kind of Traitor will probably be listed under the "thriller" section on Netflix and elsewhere simply because it was written by spymaster John le Carré but don't be fooled.

OUR KIND OF TRAITOR appears to have all the makings of a great slow-burn John Le Carre spy thriller. Despite being stylishly shot, however, the premise is paper-thin, and no amount of forced intrigue or over-acting can save this film from itself.

Admittedly I was not paying extremely close attention as I had this as some background while working, but I didn't find it particularly gripping. It has a great cast. I think Damian Lewis is one of the more underrated actors. He does a great job and I would have loved to see more from his character. This isn't a bad movie. It just isn't as exciting as I'd hoped.

How did any person pretend that his vapid garbage was worthy of even a half a star? Stellan Skarsgård is awful. Everyone is awful. Waste of good actors on terrible script.

With a 50% audience rating and 72% critic rating, I very nearly gave this one a miss, but I had it recorded, and something kept me circling over that play button, and I am so glad I chose to watch it rather than delete it. A really enjoyable movie. And yes; I'm the kind of guy who likes DaVinci Code, Bourne and Red October and stuff like that. 4/5
