Mitch C @PrimetimeMitch Sep 8 Bill Murray rarely makes comedies I don't enjoy and this is no different. The sheer brilliance of robbing the bank and then coming out as a hostage had me applauding. Whether or not this is common knowledge now I don't know, nor do I wish to dig deep into whether authorities can be fooled in such a way - I just found it great. What this movie does is give you a charming set of characters whose criminal activity is almost irrelevant to the support you have for them throughout. There's no real reason to root against them. It's silly in many parts and whether it has big rewatchability for me is questionable and it doesn't give you much other than the 3 protagonists - Jason Robards did have me laughing however. Gina Davis' character frustrated me somewhat towards the end though not enough to dilute her presence. Not a bad flick as a comedy watch. See more Wayne K Jun 3 The comedy stylings of Bill Murray might not be to everyone’s taste, and I don’t think his involvement in Quick Change, where he stars, directs, produces and (allegedly) had a hand in writing the script, likely won’t change your mind. It’s full of his witty comebacks and deadpan reactions to ludicrous situations, and he plays well off his co-stars Geena Davis & Randy Quaid. It’s an often fun but frequently frustrating film where the farcical elements are not enough to override the nonsensical plot elements. The film has the classic plot device of a ticking clock, but there’s no consistency with it, and its never made clear when the time will run out. Quaid plays such an inept idiot that almost ruins the leads plans several times, but there’s no reaction to it, as if it doesn’t even matter. In a situation that does have stakes and consequences, these are completely forgotten whenever schtick needs to happen. Some scenes are fast and punchy while others are laboured and strain for laughs, and I couldn’t help thinking that this may have had something to do with the fact that Murray and screenwriter Franklin co-directed the film. I could most charitably describe it as solid but forgettable; decent but unremarkable. Aside from what I can imagine was a fair amount of improvising on Murray’s part, the jokes are mostly substandard and even awkward at times. The cast is top notch, Murray and Quaid are exactly what you expect from these two. Geena Davis, perfect fit in this film. This is a go to for me and my friends and we quote it all of the time.
