In a small Spanish village, the hatred of a decades-long feud between the Jiménez and Fuentes families, that began with the murder of Amadeo Jiménez (Juan Sanz) at the hands of Jerónimo Fuentes (Ramon Fontserè), still lingers. Years later, Jerónimo has served his prison sentence but immediately attacks Amadeo's brother, José (José Garcia), upon release. Unaware of the feud's full history, José's eldest daughter, Isabel (Yohana Cobo), is determined to find the truth behind these violent events.

Marco L @decatur555 Dec 7, 2025 I remembered the real Puerto Hurraco case perfectly. I was 15, and back then hearing something like that was almost unimaginable. The 7th Day adapts the tragedy but introduces changes that alter the emotional point, and the story loses some of its rawness. Carlos Saura builds a sober, restrained drama about a rural world full of rancor, pride and old wounds, and the dry, tense atmosphere of the village captures hatred that is inherited and spreads like poison. But centering the story on a teenage narrator rather than the family creates distance. Ray Loriga's script is cold and shows little curiosity about the characters' psychology, so you never see the brothers sink into hatred, and the tragedy seems to come from nowhere. What truly works is the cast: José Luis Gómez, Juan Diego and Victoria Abril are enormous, saying more with a look than most dialogue. An interesting, sometimes powerful approach, but it holds back when reality was far more disturbing. See more Aug 4, 2022 Carlos Saura has been one of my favorite Directors for a long time. I was delighted to find this dvd in my public library. The film is based on real events in rural Spain, of two families/clans who have had quarrels between them escalate to violence, and even murder. Even after one family moves to another small town, the rival family still search them out in order to execute more violence against them. The film is so well done, I was totally absorbed in it. Cinematography is beautiful. Spanish guitar music is 'to die for.' Acting is very good. Very well done, and well thought film by a Cinematic Master.
