The Bay is the latest entry in the shark attack subgenre, and while it’s noticeably better than last month’s Chum, it still struggles to barely stay afloat. Go to Full Review

Bradley H @beh84 4 days ago Francesca Eastwood was very good and carried the entire film. See more TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch Oct 23, 2026 The Bay feels like a familiar shark thriller that struggles to find its own identity. The use of real shark footage instead of relying entirely on CGI was a welcome choice, helping the animals feel more believable on screen. There were creative moments in how the footage was edited to suggest attacks, but the overall presentation still felt disjointed and lost its momentum. The performances were another weakness. Neither the lead actress nor the actor really resonated with me, and both came across as bland. They seemed to deliver what their roles required without bringing much additional depth or personality to their characters. As a result, the emotional stakes never felt particularly strong, and I struggled to connect with the people at the center of the story. Ultimately, The Bay had the ingredients for a compelling shark thriller, but the execution fell flat. The concept offered opportunities for suspense and tension, yet the storytelling never fully capitalized on them. See more Max M @Househuntermax Oct 21, 2026 Being consumed by tiger sharks while on vacation would be preferable to watching this move again. See more Cinema S @cinema_sensei Aug 31, 2026 I was really hoping for a tense, grounded eco-thriller, but this was a total chore to sit through. The chaotic editing makes it really frustrating to follow, and the story falls back on every lazy horror cliché in the book instead of building genuine tension. None of the characters feel authentic, and by the end, the cheap visual tricks completely erase any actual fear or discomfort the setup built. See more Misty L @MightyMisty Aug 22, 2026 As a massive fan of shark movies who has seen almost all of them, The Bay isn't the absolute worst the subgenre has to offer, but don't expect good acting or smart writing. The decisions made by the women in the story were absurd and unbelievable. And who on earth serves bugs at a wedding buffet? It feels like a set designer tried way too hard to be quirky. If you're going to make a movie like this, you either need genuine suspense or you have to intentionally embrace the ridiculousness (like Sharknado). The geography and cultural execution were equally frustrating. They should have just set the film in Hawaii, where it was actually filmed, rather than doubling it for Thailand. For a movie set in Thailand, the "native" Thai dialogue didn't sound authentic at all. They sounded like Lao speakers trying to pronounce Thai. Non speakers might not care, but as a fluent Thai speaker, it was jarring and frankly insulting. See more Jesse M @Midnitekrawlr Aug 13, 2026 Worst tour guide ever. See more Read all reviews
